London drivers are about to be hit with even higher parking fines, with penalties increasing to £160 under new rules signed off by the Mayor.

The decision follows a request from London Councils, who claim the increase is needed to deter “anti-social” parking and cover rising enforcement costs. But let’s be real—this just feels like another way to squeeze money out of drivers at a time of high living costs.

What’s Changing?

The new fines will come into effect soon, and here’s what you need to know:

Higher fines for parking offences,

  • Band A (central London): Higher-level fines rising from £130 to £160, lower-level fines from £80 to £110

  • Band B (outer London): Higher-level fines increasing from £110 to £140, lower-level from £60 to £90

Bus lane and moving traffic fines are also going up

  • The standard fine for offences like entering a bus lane or blocking a junction will rise from £130 to £160

Clamping and removal charges increasing

  • Wheel clamp release fee: £70 → £100

  • Car pound release fee: £200 → £280

  • Daily storage fee: £40 → £55 per day

  • Vehicle disposal fee: £70 → £100

Why This Is a Cash Grab on Drivers

London Councils say these increases will deter inconsiderate parking, but many drivers will see this for what it really is—a massive money-making scheme.

  • Unclear signs, broken machines, and harsh enforcement already lead to thousands of unfair fines every year.

  • Overzealous ticket wardens often issue fines the second a driver overstays—even by a minute.

  • Small businesses and residents in outer London, where Band B fines are rising significantly, will be hit hardest.

Even though 50% of people in the public consultation opposed the increase, it’s still happening. And once again, drivers are footing the bill.
